Wise Women - Builds a House
Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands. -
By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Here Solomon contrasts once again between wisdom and folly, as in many other verses in Proverbs.
And often, in all these verses, we find foolish people to be at one end of the spectrum and the wise people to be at the other end.
In this verse, Solomon applies wisdom to the home and particularly to the woman of the house.
But before we go into this, it is necessary to understand how Bible defines the worth of a woman. Different religions, different cultures and different races have often given different meanings and have different understanding of what they think a woman is worth. We need to understand what the scripture teaches us because that transcends everything else. It is this definition that gives us the identity. And this identity will help us understand our purpose in life.
Build with strong foundation by - WORD OF GOD
Build with a strong connection through – PRAYER
Build with strong brick of – LOVE
We see a beautiful example for all the three
Hannah gave herself to God
Hannah built her life on the rock. She put a firm foundation. She was an example of worship to her son. How could she do that? Hannah had a personal relationship with God that fueled her trust, commitment and love
1 Samuel 2:1-2 details Hannah's prayer. It is the secret, how Hannah trusted God, and taught Samuel to worship God. Look at how I Samuel 2:1-2 records the prayer of Hannah. "Hannah prayed: 'My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is lifted up by the LORD. My mouth boasts over my enemies, because I rejoice in Your salvation. There is no one holy like the LORD. There is no one besides You! And there is no rock like our God.”
Here is what is amazing about this verse. It is not Eli who worships God, but Samuel. I find it so amazing that the little boy Samuel, knows how to worship God. How did he learn to worship? He learned from the only person around him, that is his mother.
Hannah rejoices in the Lord and His salvation. Her horn, which is a symbol of power, is the Lord and her rock is God. In just a few verses, Hannah exalts the might and power of the Lord. These are not just words - they reflect her heart, the love for God.
So Hannah had a strong foundation, she was connected to the Lord through prayers and she loved the lord with all her heart.
Let us have a strong connect with God and Build our House wisely.
