D22 / Faith in the Midst of the Storm
Day-22 Faith in the Midst of the Storm
Beloved in Christ, Lent is a journey through the wilderness, a path that often leads us through storms of doubt, suffering, fear, and uncertainty. In Mark 4:35–41, we see the disciples caught in a fierce storm while Jesus is in the boat with them. This passage teaches us not only about fear, but about faith.
1. The Journey Begins with Jesus
The passage begins with Jesus saying, “Let us go over to the other side.” This is important. The disciples were not in the storm by accident; they were in it because they obeyed Jesus. Sometimes we think that following Christ will remove storms from our lives. But the truth is: Obedience does not eliminate storms. Faith does not prevent struggles. Even in our faithful journey, challenges will come.
2. The Reality of the Storm
A furious storm arose, and the waves broke over the boat. The disciples, many of whom were experienced fishermen, were terrified. The storm was real, powerful, and overwhelming.
In our lives, storms may look like: Family struggles, Financial pressures, Health issues and Spiritual dryness. Faith does not deny the storm. Faith acknowledges the storm, but we have to trust God in it.
3. The Silence of Jesus
While the storm raged, Jesus was asleep on a cushion. To the disciples, this was confusing, even troubling. They cried out, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
Have you ever felt that way? “Lord, where are You?” “Why are you silent?” Lent is a season where we sometimes experience God's silence. But His silence does not mean His absence. Even when He seems quiet, He is still in the boat.
4. The Power of Christ Over the Storm
Jesus woke up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves: “Peace! Be still!”
Immediately, the wind died down, and it was completely calm. This reveals who Jesus truly is: He has authority over nature, He has power over chaos, He speaks peace into turmoil. The same voice that calmed the sea can calm your heart.
5. The Question of Faith
After calming the storm, Jesus asked, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? He addresses their fear, not the storm. Fear focuses on the problem. Faith focuses on the presence of Christ.
The disciples had Jesus in the boat, yet they were overwhelmed by fear. Their problem was not the storm; it was their lack of trust.
6. The Call From Fear to Faith
Let us examine our faith. Do we trust God only in calm times? Or do we trust Him in the storm? True faith says, “Even if the storm continues, I will trust Him.” “Even if I do not understand, I will believe.” Faith is not the absence of fear but the decision to trust God despite fear.
The story ends with awe, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!” This question leads us to the heart to recognize who Jesus is. He is not just a teacher. He is not just a miracle worker. He is the Lord over every storm. And if He is in your boat, you are never alone.
Final Takeaway
“Faith is not trusting God to remove every storm, but trusting Him to be with you and sustain you through it. When Christ is in your boat, no storm can destroy you.”
