D/9 Secret Charity

Day-9  "Secret Charity"

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.”

Lent is not a season of display; it is a season of depth. Not a season of applause, but of surrender.
Not about being seen by people but about being known by God.

1. The Danger of Public Righteousness

Jesus warns us about doing good deeds “to be seen.” Charity can become a performance. Even spiritual acts can become subtle advertisements of our goodness. In today’s world of social recognition, it is easy to announce every act of kindness.

When charity becomes a show, the reward is temporary — human praise.
When charity is secret, the reward is eternal — the Father’s pleasure.

2. The Beauty of Hidden Giving

“But when you give.” Jesus does not say if you give. Giving is expected. Charity is part of Christian DNA. But he shifts the focus from the act to the attitude. Secret charity: Purifies our motives, Crucifies our ego, Aligns our heart with God’s heart

The cross itself was the greatest silent act of charity. Our Lord Jesus Christ did not stretch out His hands on the cross for applause.

3. The Father Who Sees in Secret

Jesus repeats a powerful promise: “Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

What comfort! Even when no one thanks you, God sees. When your giving goes unnoticed — God sees.
When your sacrifice is misunderstood — God sees.

The world may overlook your silent generosity. But heaven records it. The reward is not merely material blessing — it is: Deeper intimacy with God, Inner peace, Freedom from pride, Joy that cannot be stolen

4. A Call to Hidden Transformation

During these Lenten days, let us examine: Are we giving to glorify God or ourselves? Do we help others only when recognition is possible? Can we serve silently and still rejoice?

True charity flows from a crucified heart. A heart that seeks only one approval, that is Father’s.

Practical Lenten Challenge

Let's try helping someone anonymously. Paying someone’s need without revealing your name. Praying for someone who will never know. Supporting ministry quietly

Let your left hand not know what your right hand is doing.

The world celebrates visible greatness. Heaven celebrates hidden faithfulness. This Lent, let us choose the secret place. Let us give like Christ quietly, humbly, sacrificially. And may the Father who sees in secret shape us into people whose charity reflects the cross. Amen.
