D/20 Foundations

Day-19 Foundations

Beloved, we are invited to slow down, reflect, and examine our lives. Lent is not just about giving something up; it is about building something deeper. In the Gospel of Matthew 7:24–27, Jesus ends His Sermon on the Mount with a powerful image of two builders, two houses and one storm. Two different outcomes.

This is not just a story about construction. It is a story about Life foundations. Jesus is asking us today When the storms come, will your life stand or fall?

1. The Wise Builder: A Life Built on the Rock

Jesus says, "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." We observe two things: He hears the Word, and He does the Word. The wise builder doesn't just listen, he obeys.

A strong foundation is built when Prayer becomes a habit. Forgiveness becomes a lifestyle. Love becomes an action. Humility becomes our attitude. The rock is not just good intentions; the rock is obedience to Christ.

2. The Storms Will Come

Jesus says the rain came. The streams rose. The winds blew. Both houses faced the same storm. Being a Christian does not mean there are no struggles, pain, disappointments, or suffering.

Even during Lent, we may face Financial pressure, family struggles, health challenges, spiritual dryness and emotional battles. But Jesus says The house built on the rock did not fall. Because foundation matters more than appearance. Some lives look strong on the outside but collapse under pressure. Let us build deep, not just wide.

3. The Foolish Builder: A Life Built on Sand

Jesus continues, "Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand." This builder also heard the Word. The difference is not hearing. The difference is obedience.

Sand represents temporary values, worldly success, shallow faith, emotional spirituality and comfort without commitment. Sand feels easy. It is faster. It is convenient. It requires less effort. But sand cannot hold when storms come. Jesus says, "And great was its fall." A life built without Christ may stand for a while, but storms reveal the truth.

4. A Season to Rebuild Foundations

Lent is God's invitation. Check your foundation. Ask yourself Is my prayer life strong? Is my faith rooted in Christ? Am I forgiving others? Am I growing spiritually? Am I living what I believe?

Lent is not about perfection. It is about rebuilding. Even if your foundation feels weak today, Jesus invites you to rebuild on the Rock. And the Rock is Christ Himself.

5. Christ - The True Foundation

Throughout Scripture, God reminds us that Christ is the Cornerstone. He is the rock and foundation. When we build on Christ, storms may shake us, but they will not destroy us. When we build on Christ, we may struggle, but we will stand.

This is the hope of Lent. Before Easter comes the resurrection, but before the resurrection comes the foundation. Every small step strengthens your foundation.

A building's strength is not measured by its height, its beauty and its size. It is measured by its foundation. Your spiritual life is the same. God is not asking you to be impressive. He is asking you to be grounded. Amen.

Final Takeaway

Lent is a season to strengthen our foundation in Christ. When we hear His Word and live it out, we build our lives on the Rock, and when the storms of life come, we will not fall, because our foundation is secure in Him.

Build deep and stand strong in Christ. And your life will withstand every storm.
