D/21 True Rest in Christ

Day - 21 True Rest in Christ

Beloved in Christ, Lent is a journey of reflection, repentance, and renewal. But for many, this journey can feel heavy. We carry burdens of guilt, stress, fear, and expectations. Into this reality, Jesus speaks a tender and powerful invitation, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is not just an invitation, it is a promise from the heart of our Saviour.

1. The Invitation: “Come to Me”

Jesus does not say, “Fix yourself first.” He does not say, “Try harder and then come.” He simply says, “Come to Me.” This is the beginning of true rest. Rest is not found in places, possessions, or people; it is found in a Person.

We are called to return from distraction to devotion, from self-reliance to surrender, from distance to intimacy with Christ. No matter how far we have wandered, the door to Christ is always open.

2. The Condition: Recognising Our Burden

Jesus calls those who are weary and burdened. Weariness comes from carrying sin and guilt. Trying to control everything and living without spiritual direction. Many people hide their burdens, but Jesus invites us to bring them openly.

When we acknowledge “Lord, I am tired,” and “Lord, I cannot carry this alone.” When we admit our weakness, we make room for His strength.

3. The Exchange: His Yoke for Ours

Jesus says, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me.” A yoke is a symbol of submission and connection. When we take Christ’s yoke, we walk with Him. We learn from Him. We are guided by Him

And here is the mystery: His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. Why? Because He carries it with us. The world’s burdens crush us. Christ’s yoke frees us.

4. The Character of Christ: Gentle and Humble

Jesus reveals His heart, “For I am gentle and humble in heart.” He is not harsh. He is not demanding beyond measure. He is compassionate, patient, and full of grace.

Many fear coming to God because they expect judgment. But Jesus offers gentleness. We discover a Saviour who understands. A Lord who walks beside us. A Shepherd who carries us when we are weak

5. The Promise: “You Will Find Rest”

This is not temporary relief; it is deep, soul-level rest. This rest means peace in the middle of chaos. Strength in the middle of weakness. Hope in the middle of suffering. It is the rest of knowing “I am held by Christ.”

Jesus is not asking us to carry more. He is asking us to lay down what we carry. The cross reminds us that He carried our ultimate burden so that we could live in freedom and rest. So today, hear His voice again “Come to Me…”

Final Takeaway

“True rest is not found in escaping life’s burdens, but in surrendering them to Christ. Come to Him, walk with Him, and you will find peace for your soul.”
