D/3 "Setting the Right Priorities"

Day-3  "Setting the Right Priorities"

Beloved, we live in a world full of noise, pressure, and competing demands. Work demands attention. Family needs time. Finances create anxiety. The future brings uncertainty. Many people today are not exhausted because they are working hard; they are exhausted because they are carrying too many priorities.

Jesus Christ speaks directly into our anxiety and confusion about life priorities. Lent is a season of realigning our hearts with God. Jesus invites us to shift from worry-centred living to God-centered living

In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus addresses three common human concerns: food, drink and clothing. These represent basic needs for survival concerns. Jesus is not saying these things are unimportant. He is saying they must not become our highest priority. Because when temporary needs become ultimate priorities, we lose peace.

1. Worry Confuses Our Priorities

Jesus says, "Do not worry about your life." Worry is not just an emotion; it is a priority disorder. When we worry, we focus more on problems than on God. We focus more on tomorrow than on today. We trust our control more than God's care.

Jesus points to nature, birds don’t sow or reap, yet God feeds them. Flowers don’t labour, yet God clothes them. If God cares for birds and flowers, how much more will He care for us? This teaches us that when God is not first, worry becomes first.

Let us ask, what am I worrying about? What is occupying my heart? What is taking God's place? Because whatever you worry about most is often what you prioritize most.

2. The World and the Kingdom Have Different Priorities

Jesus says, "The pagans run after all these things." In other words, the world chases security, success, and comfort. But Jesus calls believers to a different pursuit, "seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness." This is the central command.

Jesus is not saying ignore work, responsibilities and planning. He is saying to put God first in everything. Seek first God's will before your plans. God's purpose before your ambition. God's righteousness is before your success, because when God is first, everything else finds its proper place.

3. Right Priorities Bring Peace

Jesus concludes, "Do not worry about tomorrow, each day has enough trouble of its own." This is not pessimism, this is wisdom. When we live with wrong priorities, we worry about tomorrow, we regret yesterday, and we miss today.

But when we put God first, we trust God with tomorrow. We accept grace today, and we experience peace now. Because peace is not found in having everything. Peace is found in putting God first.

Questions for the Heart

During this Lenten season, ask yourself, " What has become my top priority? Is my schedule reflecting my faith? Am I chasing things instead of seeking God?" Because priorities shape direction and direction shapes destiny. Small changes in priorities create big changes in peace.

Jesus is not just giving advice. He is giving an invitation. An invitation to trust instead of worry. Seek instead of chase. Rest instead of fear. When God becomes first, life becomes lighter.

Final Takeaway

When we seek God first, worry loses power, peace fills our hearts, and everything else falls into its rightful place. Seek God first. Kingdom first. Trust first. Because right priorities lead to a peaceful life and a purposeful walk with God. Amen.
